Fifth studio album from New Hope, Pennsylvania's Gene Ween and Dean Ween. 12 Golden Country Greats was originally recorded in 1995 and was the first time the band focused on a specific genre of music. They enlisted a wide variety of seasoned Nashville musicians, including Charlie McCoy, Buddy Spicher, Bobby Ogdin and The Jordanaires, and recorded at Tennessee's Bradley's Barn. The duo succeeded in recreating the sound of country music's golden age, but not without a bit of controversy. Some have praised the band's gutsiness in recording in a genre that their fans may not have been particularly fond of, while others have derided the album for its offensive lyrical content. Includes the songs: "Piss Up A Rope," "You Were The Fool," and " Powder Blue." Ten tracks in all. Released by Plain Recordings on chestnut brown vinyl.
