Max Tannone follows up his very sought-after Mos Dub album with another outstanding hip-hop/reggae project, Dub Kweli. The formula remains the same - big tracks from the BK MC matched up with classic reggae dubs. What also remains consistent is the New York-based DJ/producer's commitment to quality. This isn't your typical "mash-up" release; there is not a moment in the album where the vocals sound off key or out of place, and all the tracks sound as if they were original materials, not remixes (even Kweli himself has stated that he likes the album, according to Tannone's website). Check out "Country Of Loving," which is "Country Cousins" over Michael Prophet's "Sweet Loving" and Scientist's "Ghost Of Frankenstein" or "Garvey Gets By" consisting of "Get By" over King Tubby & Errol Thompson's "Marcus Garvey Dub." Also, "Panta Move" featuring "Move Somethin" over "Black Panta" by Lee "Scratch" Perry, and "Words High," which is Talib's verse from Kanye's "Get Em Hight" over Jah Marcus' "Words In Dub" are dope. Recommended.
