Working with producer Zach Witness, Erykah concocted a sound that fuses hip hop, R&B, jazz, trap and art rock, weaving together a concept album referencing gems from her own back catalog plus classics by Isley Brothers, Usher, Egyptian Lover, New Edition and more. They offer up a reworking of Uncle Jamm's Army's "Dial-A-Freak," and of course there's that Drake cover that helped reintroduce Badu on here. Also featuring a collab with baby daddy Andre 3000. 2022 Motown reissue on limited edition 'shades of purple' colored vinyl, recommended.
