African Shakedown: African Shakedown 12"

African Shakedown: African Shakedown 12"

African heat alert! Limited edition repress! We totally missed this one the first time around (the og fetches mad coin), but thankfully the dudes that released it were kind enough to press up some more. The slightly mysterious Noema & Anson deliver 4 edits of some 80s African disco and none of them disappoint. First up, and the star of the show, is Noema's Tribute edit of Ata Kak's "Daa Nyinaa." It's an uptempo afro-disco bomb unlike any other, which is beefed up in all the right places and kept largely untouched. This track makes this release. "Iko Iko Dub" kind of pales in comparison, but is pleasant enough in its dubbiness. Flip the record over and you get the full version Nigerian songstress Christy Essien Igbowke's "You Can't Change A Man," a beautiful slice of African disco soul that you'll have on repeat. It's been featured on a few comps before, but still worth the vinyl here. To close things out we get an chugging Afrobeat edit from Anson. Cop this before your caught out in the cold. Recommended.
